Don't Buy this Software!!! |
Junk!! Not comprehensive for a return that includes Schedule C and Schedule E. Return is prepared online only. Software is not downloaded on your computer therefore you prepare it online only. If you walk away and don't save you loose everything. It advertised including state and when I got to the State return it said it did not support Massachusetts. You cannot print return prior to submitting electronically. It didn't seem to give you the option to print and mail in return.

Avoid! You get what you pay for, or less in my case. |
Thought I would save money by switching to Onepricetaxes this year. What a mistake! Let me try to explain.
1) The program has serious bugs. I entered three 1099 forms and it neglected to include them as part of my income. To their credit, customer support acknowledged that there is a bug and will refund the cost of the software (big wow). Nonetheless, I now have to file an amended return and will probably have to buy a competing product and fill everything out again in order to include my 1099 forms. This is completely unacceptable. How could they have missed such a basic function, do they not fully test their software?
2) At the end there is a print link. However, when I clicked on it, it failed to print and then I could find no way to print my forms. Oddly enough, after going to their website for support, it kicked me back to the program and the print link appeared. I see now that after filing, the progam will always start up at the print link. Why is there no tab for printing and review?
3) There is no audit function! All three of the other tax programs I've used performed an audit before filing and gave warnings about possible issues and advice about resolving the issues. When you use Onepricetaxes, you are on your own.
4) Using a car analogy to compare against the three other tax programs I've used, Onepricetaxes is like driving a manual shift car compared to driving an automatic. It is one step or so above filling out the forms manually. There is no guidance at all. This isn't entirely bad, but be careful that you select the right sections or something will get missed. I overlooked the section for entering payments made during the tax year and now have another reason to file an amended return.
5) There is no help system for this program. On their website they have a bare bones FAQ and that's all you get. You can ask support for help, but they only guarantee 5-7 day turn around unless you want to pay per question. To their credit, they did answer my email in just one day, but why no help system?
6) The program isn't really a program. It is just a shell written around their online system. All the processing takes place online, so operation is slothful.
Summary:
If all you need to do is file a simple 1040 EZ with electronic filing, then maybe Onepricetaxes can get it right. However, if you itemize, have 1099 forms, or have any other additional forms, I would suggest you avoid this product. I don't have a chip on my shoulder about this, but feel responsible to issue fair warning. You are now warned.

Many gotchas |

I purchase the CD ROM and installed it. Two issues quickly came up that bothered me. 1) The software stores my information on the company's computer and not my PC. Well, we all know that's not a great idea. Bad enough the government gets all this information. 2) I couldn't file on paper. With the homeowner rebates you must file on paper. I also tend to file on paper when I owe money. I returned the product and received prompt credit. I just wanted to have others 'read between the lines' on the very nice marketing materials provided. |

Buyer beware |
This product was a waste of time and money. I was trying to find something different than TurboTax or TaxCut, and to save money on the software. That was a mistake, as I will most likely end up having to buy one of the other products in order to get my taxes done to my satisfaction. The program is not easy to navigate. You can't go back to a specific form or section without having to start at the beginning of the income or expense category. There doesn't seem to be any place to input estimated tax payments. There is no way to enter more than one business vehicle. I also couldn't find a way to print my tax forms, or even look at them. There is only a tax summary which gives no details of what is on the form. I'm assuming that maybe the returns can be printed after e-filing, but I need a hard copy to review before I am willing to send it off.
I guess it is just another example of getting what you paid for, except I don't really feel this program is worth the $20. |
